The Inspector Morse series by Colin Dexter contains a total of 13 different novels, starting with Last Bus to Woodstock and ends with The Remorseful Day.  Morse may be described as a criminal investigation department (Thames Valley CID) officer who owns a Jaguar auto and has a passion for music (particulary opera and especially Wagner), beer (real ale), solving puzzles (notably cyrptic crossword puzzles), poetry, art.
