The gallery below present some (my favorites, really), but by no means all of the television series that focus on police detectives and private sleuths (of one sort or another). With the exception of "A Man Withs a Load of Mischief," which is a German television production, all of the referenced series are British (many of them ITV or BBC and seen in the United States, for example, on public television stations-PBS). All of these series are based on the written works of easily recognizeable mystery/crime,detective authors such as P.D. James, Agatha Christie, Martha Grimes, Colin Dexter, Ruth Rendell, Reginald Hill, and etc . . . You may find details of these written works (and the corresponding series) in the LIBRARY menu item.
